High school raises $47,000
WATERLOO - Students from Waterloo Collegiate Institute have raised $47,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Despite cool weather, about 300 students and 100 teachers and parents took turns doing laps around the school track.
The participants had collected pledges for the Relay for Life event, which ran from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.
This was the first time a school in Waterloo held such an event.
"It was touching to see how many people have been affected with cancer in so many ways," said student organizer Paul Cescon, 18.
The Waterloo Regional Relay for Life takes place on June 11.
